Do you see what I see?

When you look at yourself, what do you see? Do you see someone who is?

  • capable
  • beautiful or handsome
  • caring
  • generous
  • thoughtful of others’ needs and opinions
  • forgiving
  • honest
  • a good listener
  • able to believe in others
  • able to inspire others

I am certainly a work in progress. My husband took a photo of me one time while on vacation. I actually loved it, which is amazing. I posted it on my desktop. The longer I looked at the photo, the more I disliked it. My eyebrows looked like two bushy tails. Do I really have that many wrinkles? Those grey roots are showing. I am my own worst critic.

Perhaps the opposite is true for you. Looking honestly at yourself, do you perhaps see your superiority or self-righteousness?

It is quite challenging to see ourselves with a proper balance. Do you have the qualities within that cause you to admire others?

Take some time today for personal reflection. Challenge yourself on the areas that need work. If you are feeling particularly brave, ask someone else to offer some insight.

I would do the same thing with a photo I liked of myself. As the minutes passed, I would find more and more to be displeased with. I need to stop harshing my own buzz. Thanks for the thoughts.

It’s sad that our society makes us see the bad in ourselves before the good. Maybe it’s time I start working on a few of these things! Thanks for the insight.
